I spent 6 weeks traveling through Peru making travel photos, soaking up the sun on beautiful beaches, wandering through colonial cities, exploring tiny villages on the countryside and hiking through the Andes celebrating the last days of my 20’s. I loved watching the differences among the people in the different areas I visited and the kindness and patience they showed trying to decipher my terrible Spanish when I was lost (often). The hike through the Andes was simply stunning. We crested a 16,000 ft pass and camped among the ice-capped peaks each night. Another highlight was crossing Lake Titicaca and spending a few days living with the locals on Taquile Island. It’s kind of a tourist trap but if you are fortunate enough to spend the night, it’s really wonderful to see authentic Peruvian life when the tourist boats leave. Of course, there was the quintessential visit to Machu Pichu, sooooo touristy but still totally worth it. Especially if you have time to stay in Aguas Caliente and soak in their thermal hot springs.
