Belize | Travel Tuesdays

I have traveled to Belize twice. The first time it rained… a lot. I was on Caye Caulker and although it was devastatingly beautiful there wasn’t much to do on the tiny island you could walk the length of in about 15 minutes, except exchange travel stories at the hostel and sing bad karaoke at the local bar. I felt like I had missed out a little on all the wonderful things Belize has to offer, especially diving, so a few months later while celebrating my birthday in Playa del Carmen, Mexico I decided it was worth a day of travel to head back to the cayes.

This time I stayed on Ambergris Caye in the town of San Pedro and it was perfect. I preferred the colorful town of San Pedro to the desolate sandy roads of Caye Caulker because you could really get a feel for what life was like in Belize. Kids looking for fish and pretty shells along the coast, friends giving each other rides to the shops on their bikes, white picket fence alleyways that led to tropical paradises, truly amazing.

This is where I also experienced the best scuba dive of my life. I skipped all the hype surrounding the blue hole and just did some “local dives” which completely blew me away. The first site we came to there were about 30 dolphins swimming right where we were dropping in. It is extremely rare to get to dive with wild dolphins so we all rushed to get our gear on and quickly got off the boat. Diving in general is super surreal. All of your senses are transformed and I always feel like I am on another planet, but diving with dolphins was even more mind blowing. Being on their same level, below the surface, watching them above me diving in and out of the water and locking eyes with them as they swam right by was something I will never forget. San Pedro Belize travel photography of a sailboat and white picket fence on Ambergris Caye.San Pedro Belize travel photos of a boy looking for fish on Ambergris Caye.San Pedro Belize portrait of a local girl on Ambergris Caye.Kids playing baseball in San Pedro Belize on Ambergris Caye.Boy jumping off a dock in San Pedro Belize on Ambergris Caye.Bike riding in front of a colorful home in San Pedro Belize on Ambergris Caye.Travel photo of a couple kissing down an alley in San Pedro Belize on Ambergris Caye.Girl standing on a rock with a beautiful sky in San Pedro Belize on Ambergris Caye.

Beautiful photos! I was just there on AC last April, and these images so wonderfully capture the atmosphere of this wonderful place.
