It’s been so cool scouring back through years of photos looking for stories to tell on Travel Tuesdays. It’s been amazing to see how far my photography has come. How I have developed my style and voice throughout the years and I love all the memories that come flooding back to me when I see these images.
I made this photo during my first week working for the Salem News. I was living in a off-season rental steps away from Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, MA. The horseshoe shaped beach is pretty well protected and doesn’t generally see large swells unless there is a weather system off the coast. Well, a December nor’ester rolled in blanketing the colorful New England fishing village in about a foot of snow and provided beautiful rolling waves to a handful of die-hard surfers. It was cold! A brutally, frigid, biting cold day only a New Englander could appreciate. I got up that morning and did a double take as I peered out my window, quickly grabbed a bunch of my fancy, newly issued equipment and risked life and limb (hah!) as I crawled out on the slippery rock that hugs the coast, dangerously close to the icy churning water, to make this image. This was my first photo to grace the cover of this north shore newspaper.
Our family has been staying on Good Harbor beach since 1965!!! Next generation still coming. Best beach ever.
It sure is a beautiful beach located in a wonderful town brimming with history and wonderful New Englanders! 🙂 Thanks for commenting!
